Dear Everyone,

I write to let you know that after 25 years of outstanding service and
remarkable scientific achievements,* Oscar Lovera* will be retiring from
EPSS at the end of June.

*Oscar's *undergraduate education was in Physics at the University of
Cordoba in Argentina. He then moved to the U.S., completing his Ph.D. in
geophysics at the University of Chicago in 1989. Following a postdoc at
Caltech, Oscar joined Mark Harrison's group in late 1991, rising to the
rank of Full Specialist 10 years later. You may know Oscar as that nice
guy who troubleshoots the department's Unix systems and cheerfully helps
all sorts of folks with their various computer problems. What you may not
realize is that Oscar is, in fact, an extraordinary applied mathematician
and geophysicist who is internationally renowned for his contributions to
the development of thermochronology. For this work, Oscar was awarded the
inaugural Martin Dodson prize in 2014 at Chamonix, France.

*We will have a chance to celebrate with Oscar at a farewell reception
honoring all our retirees on Friday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. in the Commons
Room – please Save The Date!*
