Please see the attached flyer for information concerning an AOS 270 lecture this afternoon at 4pm in MS 7124 with Thomas Immel, University of California Berkeley, Space Sciences Laboratory .

“Exploring the Boundary Between Earth and Space: New Areas in Space Science”

Abstract:

The boundary between Earth and Space is a dynamic and variable region. Energy and momentum originating in both the solar radiation field, the solar wind and the lower atmosphere drive variations in every measurable parameter of this region. The result is that a number of characteristics of this region, such as wind speed, temperature, and neutral and plasma density can vary greatly from their mean values, affecting a number of systems upon which society depends. To understand the physical connection between our world and our space environment, a number of methods have been developed to measure key parameters of this region. In this talk we will review the science questions that remain unanswered and review the latest approaches to resolving them.

Thanks,
