Dear Travel Alert Listserv,

We are forwarding information about the upcoming Wilderness First Responder (WFR Mar 23 - April 1, 2018) training that may be of use to programs taking place in remote environements.  There is also an upcoming WFR-Recertification (Feb 17-19, 2018).  There is still space in both classes, though they are filling.


COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Wilderness First Responder course is essential if you work or recreate in the outdoors or in other austere environments where access to medical care is delayed or communication is unreliable. It is the industry standard for professional guides, trip leaders, search and rescue team members, outdoor recreationists, and international travelers. Upon completion, you will be able to conduct a thorough physical exam, obtain a patient history, assess vital signs, provide emergency care in the wilderness, and make crucial evacuation decisions. During this fast-paced, engaging course, you will spend half your time practicing skills and participating in realistic scenarios, including a full-scale night mock rescue.

Attached are the course information packets for both classes, and there is also information on the UCLA Recreation website<http://www.recreation.ucla.edu/oa#171661079-wilderness-first-responder-course>.  The course is open to anyone, whether they are affiliated with UCLA or not.  Participants may register through our online system<https://secure.recreation.ucla.edu/>.  If they don't already have a UCLA Recreation account, they may create one.
