Hello everyone,
As you may know, we are gearing up to launch UCLA's first two satellites, called ELFIN-STAR, built and tested entirely in the Geology building. We are gauging interest for attending the launch in person, to hear and feel the power of the last ever Delta II rocket as it carries our bundles of joy into polar orbit...
Please RSVP here, at your earliest convenience: tinyurl.com/ELFINRVSP
The launch is tentatively scheduled before dawn on Wednesday Sept. 12th from Vandenberg Air Force Base near Lompoc, CA, about 2.5hrs away from campus. This is just a preliminary survey to plan an appropriate viewing location for our group, so you are not committed to attend or provide a carpool spot. Due to the nature of rocket launches the date and time are subject to change and could be postponed even in the last few seconds. We hope to confirm the scheduling and travel arrangements in late August.
All are welcome to witness this historic event, just in time for the UCLA Centennial celebration. Further, since we will command the spacecraft and download data directly using our new Mission Operations Center in EPSS, we will soon officially be a Space Campus!!
Please follow us at https://www.facebook.com/ELFINSatellite/ to learn more about the team and the mission, and share with your friends and colleagues. We are currently renovating our website ( elfin.igpp.ucla.edu ), so stay tuned for updates.
GO SPACE BRUINS!!
all the best,
-Emmanuel & Vassilis
