The STEREO mission: celebration of 15th-year around the Sun

Hanying Wei
Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences
University of California, Los Angeles
Launched on October 26 , 2006, the Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory (STEREO) mission consists of two identical spacecraft which gradually separate as they orbiting around the Sun . From two observing perspectives, it made possible for the first time to observe 3D structures of solar activities on the Sun and the evolutions of corona mass ejections (CMEs) in the inner heliosphere. Albeit the loss of contact with STEREO-B while it traveled behind the Sun in 2014, STEREO-A sailed through the Solar conjunction and continues to make discoveries. Now STEREO-A still plays an important role in solar researches, together with observations from Parker Solar Prober, Solar Orbiter, and other solar wind spacecrafts at 1 AU. At its 15th years of journey around the Sun , this presentation will try to review some of the achievements from the STEREO mission and the work done by previous and current UCLA colleagues.
