From: Hyunju Connor (hkconnor at alaska.edu)

Dear GEM Community,

A joint GEM-CEDAR day will take place on Saturday, Jun 23, between the GEM and CEDAR meetings, held at the Eldorado Hotel, Santa Fe, NM. Please register for the GEM-CEDAR day at the GEM workshop website: http://www.cpe.vt.edu/gem/registration.html.

The agenda is posted at http://www.cpe.vt.edu/gem/schedule.html. Community members may contribute to session 1 and 2, entitled “Multiscale aspects of the energy budget” and “Inter-hemispheric processes, hemispheric symmetries & Asymmetries”, by submitting 1 slide to the upload website given in the agenda. Please inform the session moderators when submitting your slides. Note that moderators will select slides to cover different aspects and foster discussion.

If you have questions, please contact the session moderators or the GEM-CEDAR organizing committee (GEM-side members: Jacob Bortnik, Paul Cassak, Marc Lessard, Shin Ohtani, and Hyunju Connor).

Thank you very much.

2. A Message for GEM Hikers
------------------------------------------------------------
From: Geoff Reeves (reeves at lanl.gov)

If you were planning a hiking trip during the GEM meeting this summer you may need to reconsider your plans. Santa Fe National Forest, Los Alamos County, and other areas are under Stage III fire restrictions as of June 1. As part of the restrictions all hiking trails in the national forest are closed. (https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/santafe/alerts-notices/?aid=19353) Other areas including Carson National Forest (around Taos) and Bandelier National Monument (near Los Alamos) remain open for hiking but with other restrictions on camping, cooking, etc. The REI store in Santa Fe has current information on allowed activities in the Santa Fe area.
