1. MEETING: ISROSES III - First Announcement
September 11-16, 2016, Golden Sands, Bulgaria
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Vania Jordanova <vania at lanl.gov>
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are pleased to announce the third
International Symposium on Recent Observations and Simulations of the Sun-
Earth System (ISROSES III), which will be held during September 11-16, 2016,
at the beautiful Golden Sands resort, Hotel International
(http://www.hotelcasinointernational.com/en/meetings-conferences), situated
at the Black Sea near the city of Varna, Bulgaria.
It is a continuation of the highly successful ISROSES symposia held in
Varna, Bulgaria, during September 2006 and in Borovets, Bulgaria,
during September 2011. The main objective of this symposium is to bring
together scientists from the heliophysics communities worldwide to present
and discuss recent advances in modeling and observations of the Sun-Earth
System. A strong emphasis will be put on solar-magnetosphere-atmosphere-
ionosphere interactions and understanding the coupled geospace system.
The Science Organizing Committee includes:
Gian Luca Delzanno, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM, USA
Michael Denton, Space Science Institute, Boulder, CO, USA
Katya Georgieva, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria
Jerry Goldstein, Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio, TX, USA
Richard Horne, British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, UK
Craig Kletzing, University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA, USA
Benoit Lavraud, IRAP/CNRS/Université de Toulouse, France
Yoshizumi Miyoshi, STEL, Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan
David Sibeck, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD, USA
We cordially invite you to participate in this meeting and hope that you
will share this first announcement with colleagues worldwide. Further
information about this meeting can be found at: http://www.isroses.lanl.gov/
If you wish to be added to our mailing list please send your name and e-mail

2. JOB OPENING: Solar/Heliospheric Physics Research Associate Scientist
/Programmer Position in at the University of Colorado CIRES and
NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Alysha Reinard <alysha.reinard at noaa.gov>
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at
the University of Colorado Boulder has an immediate opening for a Research
Associate supporting NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder,
Colorado. This person will be responsible for developing and maintaining
operational solar and heliosphere models used by the Space Weather Forecast
Office to predict solar wind conditions and arrival times of CMEs at
Earth.
The immediate focus of this position will be to maintain and improve the
Wang-Sheeley-Arge and Enlil models currently running operationally on the
National Weather Service super computers. The successful applicant will
work with researchers and modelers who develop the space weather models as
well as the forecasters and customers who use the output and products from
the models. This position is fully funded but there will be opportunities to
conduct solar/heliospheric research.
Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in space physics or similar
scientific discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience. Applicants
should have demonstrated experience in scientific research including the
development and use of space weather models which incorporate the MHD
approximations. Applicants for this position must also have significant
computer programming skills and a demonstrated capacity for working with
large computer codes and super computers.
Informal inquiries may be made
to Rodney.viereck at noaa.gov and/or Alysha.Reinard at noaa.gov

3. JOB OPENING: Postdoctoral Position, Equatorial and low latitude
Ionosphere, Mesosphere and thermosphere, Physics and Astronomy
Universidade do Vale do Paraiba (UNIVAP)
Sao Jose dos Campos, Sao Paulo, Brazil
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Paulo Roberto Fagundes <fagundes at univap.br>
The Physics and Astronomy research group, Space Physics Unit, at
Universidade do Vale do Paraiba (UNIVAP) invites applications for a post-
doctoral position in Space Physics and Aeronomy.
The successful applicant will be responsible for pursuing research using the
UNIVAP Space Physics Observatory network. Experience with ionosonde, All-Sky
imaging system, FPI, and GPS (TEC) will be particularly valuable, along with
strong analytical and programming skills. Successful applicant is expected
to actively participate in experimental campaigns, acquiring and processing
data, developing new methods for data analysis, estimation, interpretation,
and synthesizing findings in journal publications while presenting in
seminars and conferences. The successful applicant will also be expected to
interact with undergraduate and graduate students affiliated with our
research group. The initial appointment will be for two year with an option
for extension contingent on performance. Applications including a detailed
CV along with research interests describing the proposed work to be done
upon selection (not more than 5 pages) and contact information for three
references should be sent to Paulo Fagundes (fagundes at univap.br)
The position will begin on September 20, 2015 and remains open until it is
filled. The current Post-doctoral fellowship is BRL 6.143,40 per month which
