MEETING: First MMS Community Science Workshop, September 7-9, 2016, UCLA -- Call for Abstracts

From: C. T. Russell for the MMS Team (ctrussel at igpp.ucla.edu)

The MMS project is sponsoring its first community-wide Science Meeting on the UCLA campus Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, September 7 – 9, 2016. To date over 50 abstracts have been submitted and close to 100 scientists have indicated their intention to attend. There is still time on the schedule for further submittals and we encourage those who have not done so to send in abstracts and to attend the meeting. Please do so on the meeting website http://mmsteam.igpp.ucla.edu/index.html.

MEETING: 8th International Workshop on Planetary, Solar and Heliospheric Radio Emissions (PRE VIII), October 25-27, 2016, Austria

From: Georg Fischer (georg.fischer at oeaw.ac.at)

The 8th International Workshop on Planetary, Solar and Heliospheric Radio Emissions (PRE 8) deals with the most recent developments in the study of non-thermal radio emissions from the Sun, the radio planets, the heliosphere, and from extrasolar sources like exoplanets or brown dwarfs. Special emphasis is put on current spacecraft missions (Juno, Cassini, Van Allen Probes etc.), but also new developments in ground-based radio telescopes will be matters of discussion, which should lead to a better coordination of ground- and space-based radio observations.

PRE 8 is the continuation of a series of workshops that took place in Graz in 1984, 1987, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2005 and 2010. PRE 8 will take place October 25-27, 2016, in the conference hotel "Schloss Seggau", which is located about 30 km south of Graz near the town of Leibnitz in Austria.

For more information please visit our website at http://pre8.oeaw.ac.at/. Registration and abstract submission are already open. The abstract deadline is on Monday, 5 September 2016.

Remembering Maha Ashour-Abdalla: Sharing Photos and Memories of Maha

From: Jean Berchem (jberchem at ucla.edu)

In about a month, we will be celebrating Maha’s life at the UCLA Faculty Center. The Memorial will be held in the late afternoon on Friday, September 9, starting at 4:00 pm and will be followed by a buffet reception at around 6:00 pm. We are in the process of organizing the Memorial session and would appreciate it if you could share some of your memories of Maha by mailing photos and/or short anecdotes to share.maha.memories at gmail.com by the end of August. Thank you.
