1. Return of Fall AGU to San Francisco
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: <claruse at igpp.ucla.edu>

AGU Director Christine McMeeting has announced that the Fall AGU will return
to San Francisco earlier than expected. In fact, it will never leave. When
the elite members of the AGU learned of the earlier suggested move to New
Orleans in December 2017, and to Washington, D.C. in 2018, a number of key
eminences gris realized that most of their generation would end up in San
Francisco regardless of the various communications the AGU issued, since none
of them are read by the eminences gris as they do not use Twitter or Facebook.
This demographic is important to the AGU as they are the major contributors
to the GIFT (Get It From Them) campaign that funds those programs that lie
outside of AGU’s statute of incorporation. Instead, the deliberations of each
section of AGU will be held in a separate hotel. This will also alleviate the
inconvenience of walking on cold, rainy streets to the Moscone Center. In the
case of the SPA section, the sessions will be held in the Holiday Inn on Van
Ness Avenue. The last mini-GEM workshop was held there and many SPA members
were able to find the hotel successfully. The AGU and the senior SPA members
are very grateful that this compromise has been reached.
