MEETING: 2018 Sun-Climate Symposium: "The State of the TSI and SSI Climate Records at the Junction of the SORCE and TSIS Missions," Lake Arrowhead, California, March 19-23, 2018

* Abstracts Due: Jan. 5, 2018 *
Observations of the Sun and Earth from space have revolutionized our view and understanding of how solar variability and other natural and anthropogenic forcings impact Earth’s atmosphere and climate. Since 1978 – more than three solar cycles – the total and spectral solar irradiance (TSI and SSI) and global terrestrial atmosphere and surface have been observed continuously, providing unprecedented quality data for Sun-climate studies. The 2018 Symposium will convene experts from across the solar-terrestrial community and from various disciplines that include Sun-climate connections, atmospheric physics and chemistry, heliophysics, and metrology to discuss solar and climate observations and models during this crucial period near the end of the Solar Radiation and Climate Experiment (SORCE) and the start of the Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor (TSIS) Mission. The agenda consists of invited and contributed oral and poster presentations in six sessions.
Please submit your abstract via email to Vanessa.George at lasp.colorado.edu. For a detailed program and session description, abstract form, confirmed speaker listing, and logistical information visit our website. We have many great speakers lined up already and we would love to have you join us!
Best regards,

JOB OPENING: Open Search for the Next NSF/AGS Division Director
From: Michael Wiltberger (mwiltber at nsf.gov)
Dear Colleagues,
The Directorate for Geosciences at NSF has initiated a search for the next Division Director for the Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences (AGS). Please see the official position description at: https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/483046300?org=NSF
This is an open search and we encourage all qualified applicants to carefully consider applying. There will be opportunities to converse in person with NSF staff at AGU and AMS, and interested parties should feel free to contact Dr. Scott Borg (sborg at nsf.gov, Deputy Assistant Director for Geosciences) or Dr. Paul Shepson (pshepson at nsf.gov, current Division Director for AGS) with questions about the position. Technical questions about the application should be directed to the contact personnel in the job announcement.
Please feel free to share the announcement widely. If you have recommendations for individuals that we should be proactive in reaching out to, feel free to send names to mwiltber at nsf.gov and they will be routed to the search committee.
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,

JOB OPENING: Research Associate in Planetary Physics at Imperial College London, Application Deadline January 10, 2018.
From: Michele Dougherty (m.dougherty at imperial.ac.uk)
This position will be based within the Space and Atmospheric Physics Group to work with Professor Michele Dougherty.
The work is linked to the end of mission science for the Cassini magnetometer instrument, focusing on understanding Saturn’s internal and external magnetic field with particular emphasis on the data from the low altitude flybys in the final phase of the mission. The work will involve data analysis of magnetic field measurements, theoretical interpretation (some knowledge of MHD and dynamo theory) and modelling in order to achieve the science goals. A PhD or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience in physics or a closely related area, together with experience in at least one or preferably two or more of: space or planetary physics; dynamo theory and planetary interiors; time series data analysis; generalised inversion techniques is essential.
