JGR Space Physics Editor-in-Chief Search: July 31

From: Morris Cohen (mcohen at gatech.edu)

Dear colleagues,

JGR: Space Physics is looking for a new Editor in Chief! The application deadline is extended to 31-July.

This is your chance to shape the direction of one of the most influential journals in geophysics, including selecting Editors and Associate Editors, driving special issues, and serving as ambassador at scientific meetings. We all know how important JGR: Space Physics is for the scientific community, and so it’s important that we have a visionary leader in the EiC position.

Might that person be you? If so…apply, apply, apply!!! All you need to do is send a CV and a letter of interest. You can do that, right?

Do you have a person in mind that you think is qualified that you would like to suggest? If so, tell us, tell us, tell us!!! All you need to do is send us an email with a name and email address.

People from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. Seriously, AGU has recently had a not-so-good track record on diversity for its EiC positions, even though there are many potential qualified applicants. The search committee is committed to a fair and impartial process.

Ready to apply or nominate/suggest a colleague? Send your application to pubmatters at agu.org

Have questions for the search committee? Send an email to JGR-SpacePhysicsEditor-in-ChiefSearchCommittee at agu.org

Buh-bye!

Morris Cohen, Georgia Tech
Chair of the Search Committee

Call for Papers on VarSITI Special Issue in JASTP -- Deadline: Nov. 30, 2019

From: Kazuo Shiokawa (shiokawa at nagoya-u.jp)

On behalf of guest editors, I would like to invite you to submit papers to the Special Issue of Variability of the Sun and Its Terrestrial Impact (VarSITI) Completion Symposium 2019 in Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics (JASTP). The symposium was held on June 10-14, 2019 at Sofia, Bulgaria. Because this special issue is one of the summarizing activities of the 5-year VarSITI program (2014-2018), we also welcome submission of papers from those who made presentation at the SCOSTEP's STP-14 conference (July 9-13, 2018, Toronto, Canada), and also from scientists who did not join these two symposiums.

The VarSITI program (http://www.varsiti.org/) was the 5-year international program of SCOSTEP (Scientific Committee On Solar-TErrestrial Physics) in 2014-2018. VarSITI focused on the recent and expected future solar activity and its consequences for the Earth, for various time scales from the order of thousands years to milliseconds, and for various locations and their connections from the solar interior to the Earth’s atmosphere. Four Scientific Projects were carried out under the VarSITI program: (1) Solar Evolution and Extrema (SEE), (2) International Study of Earth-Affecting Solar Transients (ISEST/MiniMax24), (3) Specification and Prediction of the Coupled Inner-Magnetospheric Environment (SPeCIMEN), and (4) Role Of the Sun and the Middle atmosphere / thermosphere / ionosphere In Climate (ROSMIC). These four projects were carried out in collaboration with relevant satellite and ground-based missions as well as modeling efforts to facilitate the implementation of these projects. The special issue welcomes new and interdisciplinary scientific results related to this 5-year VarSITI program.

Professor/Associate Professor in Atmospheric and Space Physics, NTNU, Trondheim Norway

The Department of Physics at NTNU announces a Professor/Associate Professor position in physics within the field of atmospheric and space physics. The focus will be on experimental and/or modelling studies of the middle and upper atmosphere and its coupling to regions above and below.

The department has active atmospheric research programs that include optical and radio remote sensing of the atmospheric environment and, though national and international collaborations, whole-atmosphere modelling. We are seeking a candidate with primary competence in atmospheric and space physics, specializing in either experimental remote-sensing of, or modelling of, the energetics, dynamics and chemistry of the middle atmosphere and its coupling to regions above and below. Candidates must hold relevant master’s and PhD degrees. The evaluation will emphasize publications in this field in the past five years (allowing for parental leave). The candidate must demonstrate the ability to initiate and lead research programs, and show a clear potential to attract externally-funded research and scholarships.

The appointee will have specific responsibility for teaching courses within energy, environment or atmospheric physics, but must also be able to teach general physics courses at bachelor level. Didactical skills, qualifications and potential will be evaluated on documented experience in teaching, outreach, course and study programme management, supervision of doctoral and master students and related work. It is a prerequisite that within three years of appointment employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language can demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level 3 in the NTNU Norwegian course (www.ntnu.edu/norwegiancourse).

Experience and enthusiasm with mobile technologies, social media and web design are appreciated. A Ph.D. is preferred but exceptional candidates at other levels will be considered.

This is a one year full-time project with an option for a one year extension contingent on performance. Applications will be reviewed as soon as received and the position will be open until filled. The position is located at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, beginning around Sep 1. Remote work may be considered for exceptional candidates. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Liz MacDonald (eliz.macdonald at gmail.com) with any questions. New Mexico Consortium is an independent nonprofit Equal Opportunity Employer, M/F/Vet/Dis, E-verify employer. Please apply online at http://newmexicoconsortium.org/careers or by mail to NMC, 4200 W.
