Invitation to Join New NASA Study Analysis Group
From: Benjamin Rackham, Nestor Espinoza (brackham at mit.edu)
NASA’s Exoplanet Exploration Program Analysis Group (ExoPAG) has recently formed the Study Analysis Group (SAG) 21 on “The Effect of Stellar Contamination on Space-based Transmission Spectroscopy,” co-chaired by Dr. Nestor Espinoza (STScI) and Dr. Benjamin Rackham (MIT).
The goal of this SAG is to bring an interdisciplinary team of scientists from the stellar, heliophysics, planetary, and exoplanetary communities together in order to address both the impact of stellar contamination on transmission spectra and the constraints on stellar photospheric heterogeneity enabled by transiting exoplanets with future space-based observations (e.g., JWST and beyond). The SAG will report its findings via one or more publications and a white paper delivered to the Agency in mid-2021. The terms of reference for SAG 21 can be found at the ExoPag website.
If you are interested in participating, please join the email list by signing up here. All are welcome to join and participate at whatever level they would like! Roles and responsibilities within the SAG will be entirely set by the interest and availability of participants.
We will settle on a date and time for our first meeting in August after assessing the availability of interested participants at the end of this month.
We would be grateful if you could extend this invitation to your internal distribution lists.

MEETING: Register Now for Virtual Solar Physics Division Meeting
From: Dale Gary (dgary at njit.edu)
The Solar Physics Division of the AAS is holding its 50th-anniversary meeting virtually on 2020 Aug. 18-19. Registration is open to all (not only SPD members) at https://aas.org/meetings/spd51. However, AGU/SPA members can join SPD as an affiliate member ($30) and register for the meeting as a member ($10) at the same cost as a non-member registration ($40), plus receive a 50th anniversary SPD pin! Registration is open through Aug. 19.

Magnetosphere Online Seminar Series
From: Kyle Murphy, David Sibeck (magnetosphere.seminars at gmail.com)
You are invited to join the Magnetosphere Online Seminar Series every Monday at 12 pm (EDST, 1600 uT).
On Monday July 27, Weichao Tu will discuss Precipitation of Energetic Particles from the Inner Magnetosphere at 12 PM EDST. A link to join the seminar via Zoom or YouTube can be found on our home page (https://msolss.github.io/MagSeminars/). The password to join the Zoom seminar is Mag at 1.
On Monday Aug 3 Clare Watt will be discussingAuroral Acceleration Mechanisms and how they relate to the Magnetospheric Substorm.

JOB OPENING: CIRES/NOAA SWPC Space Weather Forecast Applications Scientist at University of Colorado Boulder
From: Eric Adamson (eric.adamson at noaa.gov)
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) encourages applications to fill a Research Associate position resident at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC)! SWPC is the nation’s official source of space weather alerts and warnings. SWPC forecasts and products support a wide range of customers, including power grid operators, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), aviation, satellite operators, and emergency managers.
Our Research Associate will work within the SWPC Testbed section of the Space Weather Prediction Center, working with the wider Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR), Space Weather Follow On - L1 (SWFO-L1), and Compact Coronagraph teams. Specifically, this position will initially support the DSCOVR mission, with the expectation the candidate will take a lead in developing experimental space weather forecasting applications for the benefit of forecasters and customers. In addition to data from DSCOVR, the successful applicant is encouraged to investigate future missions including the SWFO-L1 and Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) for their use in crafting new space weather applications. Together, these missions are important to ensuring the highest quality space weather forecasts and it is encouraged that the applications developed using these missions will be used to improve and enhance SWPC’s geomagnetic and radiation storm forecasts. Through this role, the successful candidate will participate in preparing these missions, ground systems, and forecast products for post-launch, real-time operations!
