MEETING: IHDEA 2022

From: Yoshizumi Miyoshi, Baptiste Cecconi, Shing Fung, Arnaud Masson, Iku Shinohara, Tomo Hori (miyoshi at isee.nagoya-u.ac.jp)

We are pleased to announce that the 6th International Heliophysics Data Environment Alliance meeting (https://ihdea.net) will be held virtually from October 3 to 7, 2022, during 2 hours each day from 12 to 14 UTC.

After a day of reporting from its core members and working groups, various topics will be tackled including: metadata, data formats, access protocols, data archive coordination, analysis tools, DOI or coordination of SPASE registries.

The role of the IHDEA is to engage the community, foster communication, and to identify the standards and services which will best serve the science needs of the heliophysics community. This year in particular, we invite several persons with expertise to talk about various topics regarding scientific data, which help us better understand the heliophysics data using IPS and Science Platform at NASA and ESA.

We invite you to register to this annual meeting here:
https://cosmos.esa.int/web/ihdea
(The meeting abstracts are also to be available at this website)

Registration is free of charge. We welcome active participation broadly from the international heliophysics community. This year, the annual IHDEA meeting is formally organised by JAXA and Nagoya University. The deadline is September 16.

SESSION: 2023 National Radio Science Meeting (NSRM) Session "Heliospheric Observations of Waves in Plasmas"

From: David Malaspina (David.Malaspina at colorado.edu)

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to draw your attention to the URSI National Radio Science Meeting (NSRM) held in Boulder CO over January 10-13, 2023. In particular we invite you to contribute to the Commission H session "Heliospheric observations of waves in plasmas".

This session aims to explore the physics and impacts of plasma waves at various locations in the heliosphere (e.g. solar wind, terrestrial magnetosphere, planetary magnetospheres), making use of observations, theory, and/or simulations. In addition to magnetospheric waves, plasma waves in the inner heliosphere (e.g. Solar Probe, Solar Orbiter) are of particular interest given the wealth of new observations in this region.

The submission portal is now open, with an abstract deadline of September 16th, 2022. Please see the meeting website for abstract submission instructions: www.nrsmboulder.org

While URSI encourages in-person attendance for all presenters, a hybrid meeting is planned to allow authors to present remotely

Hope to see you in Boulder,
Jim Labelle, David Malaspina (session conveners)

JOB OPENING: Postdoc Opportunity at UC Berkeley on MAVEN Mission

From: Dave Mitchell (davem at berkeley.edu)

The Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) at the University of California, Berkeley, seeks applicants for Postdoctoral Associate positions to support the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution mission (MAVEN). The mission’s goal is to explore the planet’s upper atmosphere, ionosphere, and interactions with the Sun and solar wind to better understand atmospheric escape and climate evolution. SSL leads the MAVEN Particle and Fields science and instrument teams (STATIC, SWIA, SWEA, MAG and SEP investigations) that make measurements of magnetic fields, electrons, protons, and planetary ions.

We seek qualified applicants to contribute to one or more of the following areas:
- Plasma data analysis including magnetic field and charged particle data obtained in Mars’ ionosphere and space environment
- MAVEN data analysis with respect to understanding the effects of space weather, including but not limited to coronal mass ejections (CMEs), flares, solar energetic particles (SEPs), corotating interaction regions (CIRs)
- MAVEN data analysis with respect to Martian global dust storms
- MAVEN data analysis with respect to atmospheric escape and magnetic topology
- MHD, hybrid or kinetic simulations of the Mars-solar wind interaction, exospheric, or photochemical atmospheric dynamics.
- Instrument development for future missions
- Present annually at the Space Science Seminar or other colloquia.

For more information about the position, including required qualifications, application materials, and deadlines, go to https://aprecruit.berkeley.edu/JPF03423. The positions will remain open until filled. For questions, please email Dave Mitchell at davem at berkeley.edu. JOB OPENING: ESA Research Fellowships in Space Science

From: Yannis Zouganelis (ioannis.zouganelis at esa.int)

ESA's postdoctoral Research Fellowship programme offers early career scientists and engineers the possibility to carry out research in a variety of disciplines related to space science, space applications or space technology. Research Fellowships in Space Science specifically offer the opportunity to contribute to ESA's endeavour to explore our Solar System and the Universe, and cover the fields of heliophysics, planetary science, astrophysics and fundamental physics.

The research fellowships offer a unique insight into ESA's environment and activities while conducting cutting edge research. Mentoring and training opportunities are available, as are possibilities to engage with ESA science-related activities (e.g., archive/data science, operations, calibration, communication, citizen science).

Location: The fellowships can be taken up at any of the three sites ESAC (Spain), ESTEC (Netherlands) or STScI (USA) and we encourage applicants to choose sites that allow for best local collaborations.

Duration: Appointments are for a maximum of three years. The initial project is for two years. An extension for a third year requires a dedicated proposal and is frequently granted.

Eligibility: Citizens of ESA Member States or of cooperating and associated countries.

More information on the Research Fellowship programme and on how to apply can be found at
