MEETING: IAU Symposium 365 – Second Announcement: Deadline for Abstract Submission Approaching

From: Alexander Getling (a.getling at mail.ru)

IAU Symposium 365
Dynamics of Solar and Stellar Convection Zones and Atmospheres
21–25 August 2023, Yerevan, Armenia

Second (Seventh*) Announcement

The SOC of the Symposium calls the attention of the potential participants to the approach of the deadline for abstract submission, 31 March 2023. The same date is also the deadline for travel-grant application.

Abstracts can be submitted independently of the registration and fee payment. They will be considered by the SOC before the fee is paid but only provided their presenting authors are registered. They will be included in the conference program only after the completion of the registration procedure, which implies the payment of the fee.

For detailed information on the meeting, please visit the conference website: http://iaus365.sinp.msu.ru. To submit your abstract(s), please go to the Registration - Abstract Submission page of the website, download our template.tex file, fill it in to prepare the file(s) of your abstract(s) and rename it (them) so as to explicitly indicate the last name and the first initial of the presenting author and, if needed, the ordinal number of the abstract, e.g., “Nikolaev_E.tex” or “Johnson_A_1.tex”. To check the appearence of the result, generate .dvi files using the IAUS365 style file, which you can download as iaus365.sty. Then e-mail both (!) the .tex and the .pdf file of each abstract to the SOC address given below. While submitting your abstracts, please indicate the numbers of the relevant thematic sections of the symposium (see below the list of basic topics) in the subject field of your e-mail.

To apply for an IAU travel grant, please download the grant application form from the Registration  IAU Travel Grants page, fill it in either using a computer or (very legibly!) handwriting, sign and e-mail it in a scanned form to the SOC address given below.

MEETING: The 4th ASO-S Meeting (Online) -- Tutorials on ASO-S Data

From: Yingna Su (ynsu at pmo.ac.cn)

The Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S) was launched on October 9, 2022. After six-month of commissioning phase, the ASO-S will release the data to the public. In order to facilitate use and analysis of ASO-S data by the broader community, the 4th ASO-S Meeting will be held online. The meeting consists of two sessions, i.e., China-America Session (April 10-11, 2023, America, EST; April 11-12, 2023, China, CST) and China-Europe Session (April 11-12, 2023, UTC/CST). There will be lectures and hands-on sessions. The lectures include introduction on ASO-S related topics and tutorials on data access and analysis. More information on attending the meeting will be obtained after the registration. Registration date: from March 15 to April 5, 2023.

MEETING: DPS-EPSC 2023 Hybrid Meeting: Save the Date!

From: Kurt Retherford (Local Host), Catherine Neish (DPS Chair) & Lena Noack (EPS Chair) (KRetherford at swri.edu)

Join us 1-6 October 2023 for the 55th Annual Division for Planetary Sciences (DPS) joint meeting with the Europlanet Science Congress (EPSC). Be sure to save the date and plan to attend, either in person or online: https://aas.org/meetings/dps55. Being a joint meeting with the Europlanet Society (EPS) the topics cover all areas of planetary science, including those beyond the astronomical topics traditionally related to AAS/DPS meetings. As a hybrid meeting, we anticipate a large attendance both in person at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in San Antonio Texas and online. Solar eclipse aficionados and educators will enjoy an adjacent workshop on solar eclipse planning held on 29-30 September 2023: https://eclipse.aas.org/workshops. Return to the websites above and watch #DPSEPSC2023 on social media for more details to come!

JOB OPENING: Term-limit Civil Servant Research Scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center

From: Eric Christian (eric.r.christian at nasa.gov)

The Energetic Particle Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center has an opening for an early-career scientist interested in the origin of energetic particles in space and with experience in designing, building, and analyzing data from instruments that measure ionized and neutral high-energy particles in the heliosphere and magnetosphere. The opening is for a GS-12 6-year Term-limit Civil Servant position with the potential for conversion to permanent Civil Servant after the six years. The Energetic Particle Laboratory currently has instruments in development for the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) mission (launch in 2025), several cubesats for Low-Earth Orbit and interplanetary space, and the Lunar Gateway, as well as data from existing instruments on ACE, STEREO, IBEX, Van Allen Probes and Parker Solar Probe. The laboratory is in the Heliospheric Science Laboratory (Code 672) of Goddard's Heliophysics Science Division. Because this is a US Government Civil Servant position, applicants are required to be US citizens, and are expected to have applicable experience. A PhD in Space or Earth Science is highly desirable. The official application will be through the usajobs.gov website and will be open between March 28 and April 10. When the direct link is available, an updated announcement will appear, or the usajobs.gov website can be searched after March 28. Questions can be emailed to Adam Szabo (adam.szabo at nasa.gov), Code 672 Lab Chief, and Eric Christian (eric.r.christian at nasa.gov), Code 672 Associate Lab Chief and head of the Energetic Particle Laboratory.
