MEETING: TESS 2024 -- Session Topic Submissions Now Open

From: Geoffrey Reeves and the TESS24 SOC (geoff at reevesresearach.org)

The next joint AGU-AAS TESS meeting will be held in Dallas TX April 7-12, 2024 to coincide with the total solar eclipse. Dallas is in the path of totality. The eclipse day is followed by four days of scientific programming.

TESS is a great opportunity for the broad space physics community to meet in a much smaller venue than the AGU fall meeting and to provide more opportunity to interact with colleagues outside your specific discipline. TESS strives for a very cross-disciplinary focus to foster collaborations across the heliophysics community: Solar and Heliosphere, Ionosphere-Thermosphere-Mesosphere, and Earth and Planetary Magnetospheres.

The community-driven Triennial Earth-Sun Summit (#TESS24) is now accepting session topic proposals until 7 June. Topics suggested by the community (you) will be used by the scientific organizing committee to design the program and solicit session chairs. Please look for the “Submit a Topic” button at the top of the conference web page https://www.agu.org/TESS2024

MEETING: Solar Wind 16 Conference - Deadlines Approaching!

From: Stuart D. Bale (bale at berkeley.edu)

Abstract and housing deadlines are approaching for the Solar Wind 16 meeting (June 12-17, 2023) at Asilomar in California. Please register, book, and submit abstracts!

The meeting will be organized around a group of 'scene-setting' talks which will describe the state-of-the-art in topics of solar wind heating and acceleration mechanisms, solar wind sources, transients, interaction with planets, and the relationship to broader problems in astrophysics. Contributed talks and posters will be organized around these scene-setting talks and there will be plenty of time for open discussion.

Confirmed scene-setting speakers are Lina Hadid, Matt Kunz, Lorenzo Matteini, Merav Opher, Erika Palmerio, Viviane Pierrard, Alexis Rouillard, and Yi-Ming Wang.

In addition, we'll have 'long view' talks from Marcia Neugebauer and Russ Howard.

A goal of the meeting is to come away from the week with some consensus as the state of the field and ideas about where to go next. The new measurements from DKIST, Solar Orbiter, and Parker Solar Probe will frame these discussion and make this Solar Wind meeting especially timely.

The meeting website is here: https://solarwind16.ssl.berkeley.edu

MEETING: The 4th CGS Community Workshop -- Save the Date

From: Michael Wiltberger (wiltbemj at ucar.edu)

Dear colleagues,

The team of the Center for Geospace Storms (CGS) would like to bring to the community's attention a hybrid workshop we are planning to hold on November 13-15, 2023. The in-person component will be held in Center Green Auditorium on NCAR/HAO campus in Boulder, Colorado. Please, mark your calendars!

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together experts, early career scientists and students in the fields of space and atmospheric sciences, for an open-forum discussion of outstanding issues in the physics of geospace storms as well as ways to broaden participation in our field. While we are still finalizing the agenda for the workshop we anticipate having several invited speakers with plenty of time for discussion.

Participation in the workshop will be free but will require registration. We will set up a webpage for the workshop in the next couple of weeks with registration capabilities and a detailed agenda.

We look forward to seeing you at the workshop!

Michael Wiltberger
On behalf of the CGS Team!

Come join us for the next SHIELD webinar: "What drives you forward? Connecting School, Teams, and a Robotic Exploration to Outer Space," presented by Lindy Elkins-Tanton, PI of NASA Psyche Mission!

Sometimes people think scientists always knew what they wanted to do, and went straight at it from the age of five. My path was far curvier, and had as many downs as ups, on my way to leading a robotic NASA mission to a metal asteroid. Maybe it's clearer in hindsight than it was moving forward, but I see now how my wish to work in teams where every person can succeed has driven most of my career choices. I'll talk about my path from single mother to scientific leader.
