[Everyone] passing of Ferenc Váradi

Dear colleagues,
     I have sad news to pass along although some are already aware of it.
Ferenc Váradi, former researcher in IGPP, died suddenly on August 9 at his
home in Massachusetts. He was 55. Ferenc received his Ph.D. in Mathematics
in 1989 under the tutelage of Paul Roberts and Michael Ghil.  After working
as a consultant and software engineer for several years in New Jersey, he
returned to UCLA as a Research Associate in the Department of Atmospheric
Sciences and the IGPP from 1991-1993.  From 1993 until he left UCLA in
2005, he was a Researcher in IGPP and worked in collaboration with Michael
Ghil, William Kaula, Gerald Schubert, Bruce Runnegar, and Will Newman.
Ferenc is remembered by colleagues for his keen intellect and a generous
and helpful spirit.
