1. GEM 2017: Call for Presentations for the Substorm Focus Group

From: Kyle Murphy, Toshi Nishimura, Emma Spanswick, Jian Yang (kyle.r.murphy at nasa.gov)

The GEM focus group “Testing Proposed Links between Mesoscale Auroral and Polar Cap Dynamics and Substorms” will have three sessions at the upcoming GEM Workshop from June 18-23, 2017 in Portsmouth Virginia. The three sessions take place on Wednesday June 28. The morning session will be dedicated to a discussion on magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling concentrating on plasma sheet flows and injections and the resulting ionospheric/auroral signatures in substorm dynamics. The first afternoon session will be dedicated to a workshop session discussing select substorm events and their onset mechanisms. The final afternoon session is open to general contributions and continued discussion from the first two sessions. We invite contributions to present in the morning session and second afternoon session from both modelling, theoretical and observational studies. Please email Kyle Murphy (kyle.r.murphy at nasa.gov) and Toshi Nishimura (toshi at atmos.ucla.edu) if you would like to contribute to either of these sessions.
