At 12:00 noon EST on Monday (December 19), we plan to hold the next in our ongoing series of science telecons. The speaker this Monday will be Evan Tyler from University of Minnesota. The topic will be "Energy partitioning of four reconnection events observed in the magnetotail."

The telecom will be broadcast live via webex. If you would like to join, please
go to http://uclaigpp.webex.com/, search for the ‘Dayside Science' meeting, enter your name and contact information, and then the meeting password, which is Substorm1!

To hear the audio, do not dial the number that pops up on the webex website. Instead, please dial the following toll free (in the United States) number:

JOB OPENING: Faculty Position - Clemson University

From: Gerald Lehmacher (cuphysicsjob at clemson.edu)

Assistant Professor - Atmospheric and Space Physics

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Clemson University seeks candidates to fill a faculty position in our Atmospheric and Space Physics group at the tenure-track Assistant Professor or higher level to begin August 15, 2017. We seek candidates with a strong proven record in experimental work with emphasis on the Earth’s upper atmosphere and ionosphere. The atmospheric and space physics group within the department currently has strong research programs in rocket and ground-based observations, with technical support provided by the department’s instrument shop. Our research program also includes work in satellite diagnostics, modeling and big data, and we seek someone that can complement and enhance the research activities of the department.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous externally funded research program, exhibit a record of substantive research, and a commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Required qualifications include a PhD in Physics, or closely related field.

Applications should be submitted via Interfolio (apply.interfolio.com/39806) and include a curriculum vitae, publication list, statements of research interests and accomplishments, a research plan, a statement of teaching philosophy, and the names of at least three references. Applicant evaluations will begin on February 15, 2017 and continue until the position is filled. Information about our research and educational programs can be found at physics.clemson.edu. For further information, please contact cuphysicsjob at clemson.edu.

JOB OPENING: Positions for Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) Mission, at Southwest Research Institute

From: Jerry Goldstein (rachel.pelayo at swri.org)

Southwest Research Institute is seeking scientists to participate in the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission. Those that join the team would have the opportunity to lead their own analysis and interpretation of Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) data; integrate space observations by MMS (and other available mission data sets) with kinetic simulations, and theoretical analyses, to understand kinetic physics of magnetic reconnection; investigate physics in the diffusion region of magnetic reconnection, both at the magnetopause and in the magnetotail; investigate nonlinear processes that energize space plasmas, such as collisionless magnetic reconnection, solitary waves, and shocks; present results at scientific conferences and workshops, and publish peer-reviewed articles reporting results.

To view all open positions and apply, please visit www.swri.jobs. To view and apply for openings related to MMS, please reference job codes 15-01210 and 15-01211.
