The New Solar Telescope (NST) at Big Bear Solar Observatory renamed to the Goode Solar Telescope (GST)

From: Andrew Gerrard (gerrard at njit.edu)

The New Jersey Institute of Technology-Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research (NJIT-CSTR) is pleased to announce that the 1.6-m, off-axis New Solar Telescope (NST), located at the Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO), has been renamed to the "Goode Solar Telescope” (GST) as of July 17, 2017. This renaming is in appreciation and dedication to NJIT Distinguished Research Professor Dr. Phil Goode, originator and former director (1997-2013) of CSTR, and PI of the GST design, construction, and realization. Furthermore, this renaming celebrates Phil Goode’s accomplishments in multi-conjugate adaptive optics, utilized on the GST at BBSO. It is with deep appreciation and respect to Phil Goode that the world's highest resolution telescope be named in his honor. More information and requests for observing time on the GST can be found at: http://www.bbso.njit.edu
