JOB OPENING: Postdoctoral Scholar Position in Space Physics or Planetary Science at Boston University
From: Wen Li (wenli77 at bu.edu)
A postdoctoral scholar position in Space Physics or Planetary Science is now available at the Center for Space Physics, Boston University. The successful applicant will work on Earth’s and/or Jupiter’s magnetospheric dynamics with Dr. Wen Li’s group. The subjects include radiation belt dynamics, generation and propagation of magnetospheric waves, particle precipitation into the upper atmosphere, and origin of aurora. The successful candidate will be extensively involved in various missions including Van Allen Probes, THEMIS, MMS, multiple Low-Earth-Orbiting satellites, and/or Juno. Applicants who have experience in data analysis, modeling or theory on the above related topics are all very welcome.
Candidates should have a strong background in data analysis, theory, or numerical simulation in the Earth’s or planetary (preferentially Jupiter) magnetosphere, and are expected to communicate research through publications of peer-reviewed journal articles and presentations in scientific conferences. A PhD degree in Space Physics or related field by the start date is required. A candidate with extensive experience in the field may also be considered in the Research Scientist title.
The review will start upon a receipt of an application and the position will remain open until filled. The appointment is expected to start from Spring-Fall 2018, and the exact start date is negotiable. The appointment will be made on a yearly basis and is expected to continue for 2 years or longer, subject to annual performance reviews and continued funding. Salary will be commensurate with experience according to the university salary scaling.
To apply, please submit (1) a full curriculum vitae, (2) a brief research statement (up to 2 pages), and (3) contact information for three references, by email to Wen Li (wenli77 at bu.edu). Inquiries on this position should be addressed to the same email address.

JOB OPENING: Postdoc Position at GFZ in the field of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (ionosphere/thermosphere)
From: Yosuke Yamazaki (yamazaki at gfz-potsdam.de)
GFZ Potsdam invites applications for a 22-month postdoc position at Section "Geomagnetism". We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic scientist to develop a new inversion technique to estimate atmospheric tides in the Earth's upper atmosphere. The job duties include analyzing geomagnetic field data, developing an ionospheric wind dynamo model, and disseminating results through scientific conferences and peer-reviewed publications. More details, including how to apply, can be found under:

JOB OPENING: PhD Position in Space Physics
From: David Andrews (david.andrews at irfu.se)
Applications are invited for a PhD student position to study the plasma environment of Mars. Big questions remain regarding the topic – did ancient Mars lose most of its primordial atmosphere in to space, and how can we address this using current day measurements? Specifically, the aim of the project is to develop detailed understanding of electrodynamic processes at the day-night boundary, where steep gradients in plasma density and temperature are found. Intense, varied crustal magnetic fields, along with dynamic fields induced by the solar wind flowing past the planet are also significant here. The new PhD student will work directly with experimental data from both the ESA Mars Express and NASA MAVEN missions.
The position is available at the Uppsala office at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF), located at the Angstrom Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden, starting in 2018 for a total duration of four years. The PhD student will belong to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University and must therefore fulfill the university requirements. Information on the research education is available at www.physics.uu.se and www.teknat.uu.se. Information on research at IRF Uppsala can be found at www.irfu.se. The Swedish National Space Board funds the position.
For further information, please see http://www.irf.se/Topical/Vacancies/?group=P4&vacid=58 or contact us directly:

Closing date for applications is 31 October 2017.
Applications should include a CV, a short (one-page) letter stating research interests and relevant experience, copies of academic transcripts, completed theses or manuscripts and other relevant publications, and contact information for two professional references.
Applications should be submitted, preferably by email, to: registrator at irf.se or by post to: Swedish Institute of Space Physics, Registrar, Box 812, SE-981 28 Kiruna, Sweden. Please quote reference number: 2.2.1-253/17
