Passing of Alexander Dessler

Alexander Dessler passed from this world on 9 April 2023.  He founded the Space Science Department at Rice University in 1963, and guided hundreds of students to successful careers in that field until his retirement from Rice thirty years later. He retired from Rice but not from space science. He remained an active and productive researcher until well into the twenty-first century. He is widely recognized as a founding father of the scientific field of space physics, not only in the United States but also in the world. Alex was a leader, a mentor, and a true friend.
